Applying a .jpg file as wallpaper in Win98

I am using WinME in my PC and have no problem using a digital pic as wallpaper. I have tried using a .jpg file in my wives PC with Win98 with no luck. When I click the Diplay Icon and select "Browse" and select an image, I click "Apply" and get a message, "The wallpaper you selected can be shown on the desktop only if Active Desktop is enabled. Do you want to enable it/Yes/No". Click "Yes" and I get the Web Links and the picture does not appear. The manual doen't mention the Active Desktop when using a selected html or .jpg file as wallpaper. Any help will be appreciated.

It usually works fine if choosing a saved file. Try enabling active desktop first, then setting the wallpaper.

Hi deerslayer, I enabled my active desktop and then tried to apply a saved .jpg but it still doesn't show. Thank you for your response, any thing else I can try??

Try opening it first in paint, saving it as a bitmap, then use the bitmap for the desktop. Granted, this is a workaround, but you shouldn't see too much degradation on the graphic quality.

Thanks badajo. Tried your suggestion but the pic still won't take. Probably another fluke of the machine.

Hi again: This is to let you know that the .bmp file did take but was covered by the "Active Desktop". I activated "View as web page" and now have the background I wanted. Tanks again,
