Windows XP Upgrade

I am pondering upgrading to Windows XP from Windoes ME have checked all potential problems only Roixo need updating
Question should I keep the floppy as the first boot device or should it be the CD allowing bootin from the CD ?
Or should i keep the set up as now allowin the floppy to remain as the first boot device:D

I would do a clean install of the XP upgrade. See our Windows FAQs. If you want to boot to the CD and the hard disk is bootale, temporarily change the first boot device to the CD drive in the CMOS Setup. You can also boot to Me and simply insert the CD. Larry

Had a look at the link does it mean that the CD should be set to first boot in the existing ME system using the BIOS to make it operational prior to clean XP instillation and with a CD writer on the second IDE Channel will acess be stragight forward or ddoes the
CD writer need disabling first?

I haven't tried that. It may check one drive and then the other, or it may check the first drive (Master) and fail if it doen't have a bootable CD in it; I suspect it will do the former. To be clear, the change is done from the CMOS setup, not Windows. Larry

Having thought about it if I neeed to go in to the COMOS as i will
to change the first boot to CD i rekon it is just a sensiable precaution to simply disable the second IDE channel and then when all is well re-able it
Mind you if XP is analysing the set up it may not be such a good idear ?
