My Current Problem is: The Host Connects to the Internet but the client Does not. Also normal networking functions between the two pc's is perfect.

When I ping the Host IP Address from client = OK
When I ping IP address on Internet from client = Request Timed Out

I have the following setup:

1) 2 x pentium computers using Windows ME
- Peer to Peer network (Crossover Cable Cat5)
- Using ADSL or DSL as some call it.
- Host PC with x2 network cards (SMC Card for ADSL link and D-Link Card for Peer to Peer link)

2) I am using RASPPOE as my "PPP over Ethernet Protocol" version 0.96.

3) My Network has the following in it:

HOST PC:-
a) Client For Microsoft Networks
b) Microsoft Family Login
c) My home Network Adapter - D-Link DFE-530TX + PCI
d) Dial-Up Adapter
e) Internet Connection Sharing Adapter
f) My ADSL Adapter - SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1211TX)
g) Protocols -
- Internet Connection Sharing Protocol (D-Link card)
- Internet Connection Sharing Protocol ( DialUp Adapter)
- Internet Connection Sharing Protocol (Internet Connection Sharing)
- NDISWAN -> PPP over ethernet miniport
- NDISWAN -> PPP over ethernet miniport
- NetBEUI -> D-Link card
- NetBEUI -> DialUp Adapter
- NetBEUI -> Internet Connection Sharing
- NetBEUI -> SMC EZ card
- PPP over ethernet miniport -> PPP over ethernet protocol
- PPP over ethernet miniport -> PPP over ethernet protocol
- PPP over ethernet miniport -> D-Link Card
- PPP over ethernet miniport -> SMC EZ Card
- TCP/IP(Home)-> D-Link Card
- TCP/IP(Shared) -> SMC EZ Card
- TCP/IP -> DialUp Adapter
- TCP/IP -> Internet Connection Sharing

CLIENT PC:-

Protocol - NDISWAN -> over Ethernet Miniport
Protocol - NetBEUI -> 3Com Megahertz LAN PC
Protocol - NetBEUI -> Dial-Up Adapter
Protocol - PPP over Ethernet Miniport -> PPP over Ethernet Protocol
Protocol - PPP over Ethernet Miniport -> 3Com Megahertz Lan PC Card
Protocol - TCP/IP -> 3Com Megahertz Lan
Protocol - TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter
File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks

I am at a loss as I have followed all the Microsoft "How to Troubleshoot Internet Connection Sharing" knowledge base articles. And I can't fault anything.

I am sorry for this lengthy message but, I hope in may help with giving me a solution.

The lengthy message is very much appreciated. I have not used RASPPOE or PPPOE. Your network configuration looks terribly complicated. I did check the RASPPOE web site and the documentation is not very good. I would think the PPPOE would be handled by the host and should not be installed on the client as the ICS NAT should handle the client, but I am not sure. The RASPPOE web site says:

“If you have more than one network adapter in your system, you may want to remove the PPP over Ethernet Protocol for all adapters but the one your broadband modem is actually connected to. To do this, locate all unneeded PPP over Ethernet Protocol -> Adapter Name entries in the Network Configuration window, select them one by one and click the Remove button. (Note: For each adapter you remove the protocol from, you will see two additional entries disappear: PPP over Ethernet Miniport -> PPP over Ethernet Protocol and NDISWAN -> PPP over Ethernet Miniport. Do not remove any of these entries manually!).”

Also, I see multiple instances of NDISWAN -> PPP over ethernet miniport and PPP over ethernet miniport -> PPP over ethernet protocol, which may be causing a problem.

Frankly, I would not use RASPPOE. I would purchase a router with PPPOE capabilities, such as the SMC Barricade (http://duxcw.com/digest/Reviews/Network/smc/smc7004br/smc7004br.htm). You can buy one for about $100. Another reader may be able to help if you want to pursue the problem. Larry

Putting screen shots on a web server so everyone can see them is really an excellent way of providing information. Your ICS shared adapter is the SMC Ethernet adapter. Go here to reconfigure ICS for DSL with PPPOE: http://duxcw.com/faq/ics/pppoe.htm. Larry
