Printer/Internet Sharing

I have linked my Win 98SE (with printer) and Win 95 machines together using crossover cable - each can see and use each other's drives OK, and the W95 machine can "see" the printer on the W98 machine. It is a Deskjet 930c connected via USB, and the W95 machine allocates LPT1 to it, but won't actually print, saying that it is not online - should I connect it via parallel instead?
Alos, I have run the ICS wizard and created a disk for the client machine, but it seems incapable of running IE - I have tried reinstalling IE4, but it won't run the setup program - do you think this is linked to the network or unrelated?

I would not use windows 95 or 98 ics they just give problems. I would run Analogx's proxy server(free), just download it from analogx.com. next, I would not re-install ie4 I would do an upgrade to IE 5.5, your pages will be displayed faster. As for your printing problem I have a few questions. Is it shared correctly? What protocols are you running on you network? Does the host computer have any problems printing to it? Hope this helps.

I can't check the protocols because I am in work, but I will later.
Everything has been set up as per the How To section on this site, so I assume that the printer is shared correctly. The host has no printing problems. Did I mention that it is connected via USB?

If the 95 machine got the driver for the printer over the network from the 98 machine that could be the problem. Try installing the parallel port driver directly on the 95 computer from the HP disk. Considering your other problem, I would lean towards upgrading that computer to Win 98 SE. Larry

Thanks, I haven't got time to fiddle for a day or so, so I'll get back to you when I've upgraded the W95 machine.
