win98 insists on having a modem ?

I have a network .... all runs fine ...network settings, protocols etc all ok ....
Just formatted a PC and put win98SE ...
win98 refuses to use the gateway PC ..everytime i click IE it wants to configure a modem ?
any way of stopping this , i only want to use the lan Internet connection
i have tried everything IP's are fine etc its just win98

Yes, there is a way to fix it. Go to Tools >> Internet Options >>> Connections tab >>>> Mark Never dial a connection just to be safe >>>>> Then go down to LAN Settings and set it up!

never dial a connection area is greyed out as there has never been a modem installed ..and has a check mark next to it ......so thats ok ...
as far as configuring lan settings? what is there to configure in there ?

yer i went into internet connection wizard and just chose connect by LAN ... thanks
