Today I installed ICS for win98 in my desktop so that I can access internet from my laptop. But my laptop is not able to access any site. However when i ping to IP address of a site (www.yahoo.com) I get a reply. though I fail to ping to a site name. i am able to ping successfully to and from my desktop. could anyone help me with this strange problem ? 2. It appears to a Domain Name Service (DNS) problem. That is, your ISP’s DNS servers are not being queried to resolving Internet domains into IP addresses. The problem is almost always a local configuration one. Is the ICS client set to obtain its IP address automatically? If it is it, the ICS DNS proxy server should be connecting to the DNS servers to resolve domain names for the client; but I have seen it not work on some systems. Try this on the ICS host: Start, Run, enter winipcfg, select the network adapter connected to the cable MODEM, Click the More Info >> button, and record the IP addresses of the DNS servers (most ISP’s have two of them). Or, get this info from your ISP’s documentation. On the client… Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network, select the TCP/IP bound to the network adapter, Properties, DNS Configuration, Enable DNS, and enter the IPs of the DNS servers. Your service provider may have specific entries for the Host and Domain name entries. The PC name for the Host and ISP domain name (xxx.net or xxx.com) for the Domain will usually work OK. Larry
