computers don't recognize

I've set up a peer to peer network at home and I followed all the steps on this site. When I click on network neighborhood, the only computer listed is the computer itself; not the other (on both computers). When I use the find computer option, the network doesn't find any computer. Can you help me or I will be obligated to shoot both computers down the stairs?!?!?!?!

Laf is my computer but the other one is not there. Same thing for the other computer.

I'm having somewhat the same problem.
I picked up a Linksys 5 port switch to use with my @Home ISP with a Motorola SB4100 modem. Both PC's are running Win98 SE and are able to acces the internet. However, no matter how hard I try, or which combination of networking protocols I try, the computers do not see eachother on the Network Neighbourhood.
If I connect the computers directly with a X-over cable, everything's fine. But it doesn't seem to work with the switch. Linksys assured me that this should work, but I can't figure it out for the life of me!
Could anyone help?

Styler_007, If they work with a crossover cable and connect to the Internet, they should work with the switch. Do you have NetBEUI installed as well as TCP/IP? Larry

No, I don't have NetBEUI installed right now. I tried that, and they still didn't work. I figure they should see eachother with just TCP/IP, no?

Now, that guide assumes that the PCs are connected via a crossover cable. Should the NetBEUI protocol work in the same way through the network switch? I don't want to have to get a 2nd PCMCIA card for my laptop to direct-connect them that way.

mouettus, how are they connected together? Most network adapters have a Link LED. Are they on solid? What versions of Windows do you have installed? What network components are installed? Are drives shared on both computers? Larry
