If I setup one computer on the LAN as a proxy server, can I attach the cable modem directly to the hub?

You would usually put two network adapters in the proxy, and connect one to the MODEM and the other to the hub. See http://duxcw.com/faq/ics/waysshare.htm for more info. Larry
