file and printer connection XP and windows ME

I have problem connecting xp and me I used two Ethernet card and a crossover cable
I run the wizerd in the network wizard in the XP I named it “NEW” and then it ask me if I want to do a floppy disk that ca be run in the other PC I did it
I put it in windows me and run it and I gave the me a name “OLD” I used the same workgroup name the default
I did the password thing for the me and I make drivers “D”E” as shared
Now
In the XP workgroup all I see is the “NEW” and the same thing for the ME I see “OLD”
I thought it needs time so I left it for a day it did not work
What is it I should do
The thing is it was working last week but I had to format the XP because of a virus and I deleted the workgroup in the ME so what shall I do now.

i did eveything in there and there was one improve i can see the windows ME in the XP but cant access to it and in the ME there is only the ME file no XP

What protocols do you have installed on both computers? Are the Link LEDs on the network adapters in both computers staying on solid once both computers have booted-up to Windows? Larry

Internet Protocol TCP/IP in both
i did not put any IP, subnet mask or gateway in any of them
i change the workgroup in both from mshome to mshome1 (are they case sencitve)
when i try to log to the ME from the XP i got this messege ""ME is not accessble.you might not have pemission to use tis network resource""
there are two LEDs the Oange stay on all time the Green on most of the time and flash just for short of time sec.

Aren’t those LEDs labeled? Try looking at them with a flashlight.

Ok, try the steps at the link in my last post. XP should be similar to 2000. I XP RC2, but have not had time to install and play with it yet. At a glance, XP RC1 looks similar to 2000. You may need the NetBEUI protocol. Windows XP does not support it. First remove NetBEUI if it is presently installed on the Me computer to avoid a known problem with Me looking for a browse master with just one protocol if two are installed. If the network then works OK with just TCP/IP, you are all set. Windows XP does not support NetBEUI (mskb 306059), but mskb 301041, How to Install NetBEUI on Windows XP, at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q301/0/41.ASP. so, I would try it if TCP/IP does do the trick. Mskb 301041 must be there for a reason. Larry

I am running XP RC2. I have it networked to a Win 98 machine. I made sure the win 98 machine was set up correctly. It could see itself in network neighborhood. Installed XP with networking. Hooked up the network cables, and XP saw the network and the win98 machine. It set up internet connection sharing at that point. Here is what is installed in the properties of my network connection:
Client for microsoft windows
file and printer sharing
QOS packet scheduler
TCP/IP
Under authentication, I have network access IEEE 802.1X
I have 2 SMC ethernet cards.

I had a similar problem with my home network. I enabled internet sharing on the host and the then I could see and access files from all pc's. ( before this I had tcp/ip setup but the other pc's couldn't see the XP pc.)

OK I cracked it - after many hours of sweat and tears.
1. Run the network setup wizard on your XP machine.
2. Make the XP machine the machine through which other computers connect to the internet.
3. Choose to make a netsetup disk for your ME machine.
4. Finish.
Then use the netsetup disk to set up the connection on the ME machine making sure you choose to connect to the internet through another machine.
I was able to see shared files on both computers.
