westy Oct-04-01 09:51 PM
I'm having trouble dialing out on both host & client through Ics ,both pc's on Me ,i get a connection but no page loaded ,browser says its searching for proxy server then times out,i thought ics was the proxy server i have DHCP enabled(ive checked the registry setting)but when i run network troubleshooter it insists DHCP is disabled, everything points to no DHCP but it is enabled. any help appreciated thanks.

Check Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, and Connections to be sure the Use proxy server box is unchecked. The setting can also be accessed in the Internet Explorer with Tools, Options… Larry

Yes I had made sure use proxy server is unchecked, i could'nt get the network to work with tcp/ip so taking your advice from many previous posts i installed netbeui ,it works fine now, just can't browse, points to tcp/ip settings and DHCP isn't doing something it should be? Im a novice at this and if im talking twaddle tell me,its a steeeep learning curve! Its bloody frustrating but I have to beat it.

One thing I did notice was that as soon as id installed the network adapter, before i'd even installed ICS this problem occurs ,to be fair it might not be ICS as it starts happening as soon as i install a network adapter on the host puter,to get internet access i have to take the nic out and boot a registry thats previous to installing the nic. Any ideas?

I do not recommend going into the registry or restoring older versions as a routine sort of thing to do. It is a last resort, is rarely necessary, and can cause a lot of problems if you don’t know exactly what you are doing. ICS should install a static IP on the ICS host computer: 192.168.000.001. Check the DHCP server on the client with Start, Run, enter winipcfg, select the network adapter, and release and renew the IP address. The ICS DHCP server will probably assign it 192.168.000.002. Check the connection to the ICS host by opening a DOS Window in Windows and typing:
C:\ping 192.168.01
What do you get? Larry

Hi ,I know its a cop-out but i was fed up,i mailed a guy who had similar probs and posted in here, he got round it by clean install of windows,so ive gave in(it was time for a clear out anyway ...honest)I have my Nic in at the moment and im on the net!(obviously). Ill connect the pc's together tommorow(today...later)then fingers crossed Ics.In the end if it works it would have been quicker to just reinstall from the start, ive wasted 3 days on this, and to be honest i think it could have been a driver thing cos all settings were as they should have been.many thanks for the help ,Ill let you know how i get on!
