Setting up an HTTP server with my router

I have had an http server running off my cable connection for a while. Then I got another computer, so I bought a router (Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router with 10/100 4-port switch). After this I can not get my server to work. People on the internet get a 404, but people inside my LAN get to the page. I'm using the Savant 3 web server (http://savant.sourceforge.net).
I've tried everything tech-support has told me, but they gave useless information I already knew.

You have to configure the router to put the server in a DMZ (demilitarized/unpotected zone) or open a port(s) for it to communicate to the outside world. Or, is that what tech support told you? Larry
