i have a router but can not share printer

i have 2 computers hooked up to my cable router, a desktop and a laptop. i am not able to share the printer which is connected to my desktop. when i click on network neighborhood to search entire network it tells me it can not be browsed. the computers are able to identify each other thru "find computer". would anyone have some suggestions to my problem? the computers are configured in network properties to share files and printer.

Are the two computers on the same subnet or the same workgroup? Make sure the subnet masks are the same and the workgroup names are the same. Also check to see if the IP addresses are different, but the same subnet. They should be somthing like 10.0.0.10 and 10.0.0.11. They CANNOT be like 10.11.0.10 and 11.10.0.11.

i am running windows 98 on both computers. the ip addresses are different with subnet the same. i am wondering if the protocol settings is wrong. i have tried to add NETBEUI on the desktop computer and it will not let me. i get a error msg saying can not find file on win 98 cd. could that be the reason? the laptop is fine when i added NETBEUI. thanks for helping me out.

Can both computers get to the internet? What type of router are you using? Try following Larry's instructions....make sure you follow them exactly. You can probably skip the beginning and go right to the software installation.

i have a linksy 4 port router and both computers connect to the internet. thanks for the help! i finally did get the laptop to share the printer. the next problem i have is my server email. when i am logged on to the network i can not access my outlook express on either computer. i can not go into my server email through outlook express. i get a error message saying password not accepted or something like that. this networking is new to me. would you know how i could access my outlook express?
