I am having problems with a crossover cable network between 2 computers, WinXP and Win95a. The XP wizard doesn't support 95 so I set them up following Larry Byard's excellent instructions "how to network two windows computers." I am using TCI/IP protocol on both (netbeui didn't seem to be an option with XP). I get the message, "unable to browse the network." One computer has a link (steady green LED), the other doesn't. If I reverse the cable, the opposite computer shows a link. Is my cable defective? Any suggestions would be appreciated. 1. Thanks for the suggestion. I had considered netbeui; however, today I got my network using the TCP/IP protocol. I had multiple problems: bad crossover cable, device conflicts, IP address setup problems, etc. I read a lot learned quite a bit. Its a good feeling to figure things out.
