NT Server

I have added an NT 4.0 server to a 3 client network. I have a Barricade router that I'm using as a DHCP server. Problem is that the connections from the Windows ME clients to the server is great, but the connection from the NT Server to the shares on the ME clients is extremely slow. I get the searching flashlight when trying to browse the shares on the clients. But I have no problem seeing the clients in Network Neighborhood just takes forever to see the shares on the clients. Any ideas?

Swap cables. Disable the DHCP server on the NT server, and set TCP/IP to get it's IP automatically from the router. Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Try running only TCP/IP. Play with Browse Master settings. The NT server should be the Browse Master. Larry

I do not have DHCP running on the server just the router. I'll enable NetBIOS. I only have TCP/IP running now. I installed NetBUEI to see if that helped and it didn't, so I uninstalled it. I'll let you know.

Ok, this is what I've done...
Replaced the cable from the server to the router.
Changed port the cable plugs into on the router to a different one.
Enabled NetBIOS on the ME client
Disabled Browse Master on ME client
Enabled using DHCP server to resolve NetBIOS names on ME client
Removed WINS service on server
Configured server to obtain IP from DHCP
No DNS server specified on either machine
TCP/IP only protocol on either machine
Still same problems. Slow connection from server to client, but fine client to server.
Bandwith speed test shows ME client dload 2.4Mbps and 420kbps uload
Bandwith speed test shows server dload 534kbps and 204kbps upload

What protocols do you have installed on the clients? Do you have the Novell client installed? Have you installed the NT service packs? Larry

I am only running TCP/IP on all machines.
I have service pack 6a installed on the server.
