I am trying to setup my home network with 3 machines. 1 has XP and 2 have 98. From the XP machine, I can see both 98 machines, however, I can only access the files from one. From either of the 98 machines, I cannot see the XP machine at all. The 98 machines can see each other, but I cannot share files between the two. Both 98 machines were setup the same. Can anyone help with this? I have been battling this problem all night. 1. RE: Problem with networking XP and 98 computers lbyard Nov-28-01 07:20 PM In response to message 0
Try removing all protocols except TCP/IP. I have found that XP does not like NetBEUI. Larry 2. RE: Problem with networking XP and 98 computers kmotts Nov-29-01 03:44 PM In response to message 1
Thanks Larry. I removed all protocols except the TCP/IP from all three machines and I can now access the XP machine from one of the 98 machines. I still have one 98 machine that is still having trouble. I can find both the XP and the other 98 machine on the network, but when I try to browse the files I receive two different messages. When trying to access the files from the 98 machine it says something like, "computer not available, no error information", when I try to access the XP machine it says, " computer not logged in". Do you know a solution? 3. RE: Problem with networking XP and 98 computers lbyard Nov-29-01 05:18 PM In response to message 2
Check the network configurations on the 98 computer that does not work against the one that does and make them identical except the computer names (see http://duxcw.com/faq/network/names.htm). Make sure the guest account is activated on the XP computer. Swap cables between the 98 computers (or move them temporarily). Larry
