Guest account enabled, still password prob from 98 to xp

I have read many posts about being prompted for a password when going from 98 to xp. I enabled the guest account and set a null password but it still prompts me for a password, here is my configuration:
win 98:
-file and print sharing for microsoft networks
-client for microsoft netowrks
-tcp/ip
(used to have netbeui but removed it)

windows xp config is:
-file and print sharing for microsoft networks
-client for microsoft netowrks
-tcp/ip
-qos packet scheduler
I thought maybe it was the packet scheduler since it was the only thing different, but when I unchecked it it didn't help anything. Can you think of anything else I could be forgetting? I can access shares from xp on the 98 machine. And I did share a folder on the xp machine to try to access from the 98 machine using run \\compname\sharename and it didn't work either.

The QoS Packet Schedular has nothing to do with it. Have shared the dirves/folders? Use share names that do no have a $ in them. Larry

I shared my music folder. I named it music with no $. lets say my comp name is sdcharge. I went to run from the 98 machine and typed \\sdcharge\music and still got prompted for a password. When I go to network neighborhood and click on the computer icon for the xp machine from the 98 machine, it tries to connect to \\sdcharge\ipc. Still, I get prompted for a password either way I go. I even assigned the guest account full control permissions to the music folder. I know I shouldn't have to do this since the everyone group has permissions but I was trying everything.

I think so, if I'm not mistaken the everyone group is a built-in group that consists of all users and groups. Either way, I assigned full control permissions to the guest account and it still does not work.

See if the netlogin service is running on the XP computer. If you can't find it, I'll hook-up a drive with XP and provide a path. If you can and it fixes it, I'd appreciate a blurb on the particulars. Larry

I got it to work. I tried sharing the c drive on the xp comp then it prompted me to enable file sharing on the computer. So I said yes and then it started working. I wonder why it didn't ask me this when I shared the folders originally, oh well. Its up and running now, thanks Larry for your help and prompt responses.
