Log onto Network screen doesn't come up when starting windows on 1 computer in my network.

My network is working fine except on 1 computer, when I turn on my computer, I don't get the password box to log me onto the network. Only on 1 computer. All else is working fine.

Go to Control Panel, Network and change the Primary Network Logon to Client for Microsoft Networks. If it is already set that way, change it to Windows Logon, reboot, log in, change it back to Client for Microsoft Networks and reboot again. If that doesn't work, please come back--or come back and tell us it did. Larry

Hi again, I did that-unfortunately it didn't work. Now something I didn't mention, I recently had a new hard drive placed, because of failure on my old drive. When I reinstalled and set up my computer- now this is the bug that I can't figure out.

See if you can logoff and log back on. By Clicking Start, Log Off name. If there is no Log Off right above Shut Down, Go into the Windows Registry (be very careful)…
Click Start, Run and enter regedit
Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE tree by clicking plus signs as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Network\Real Mode Net
If you see AutoLogin on the right and it has a value other than 0, double click it and change it to 0 (zero).

Ok, go back into the registry and delete the beforementioned entry. Also go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Network in the registry. If the the following entry exists, delete it as well:
Disable Password Caching

This was not the case. Did not see Disable Password Caching anywhere.

Can you tell if that machine is actually conencting to the network but just not asking you to login or is it not even connecting to the network. If its not connecting to the network at all then you need to look at the network settings and/or cable. Are you using tcp/ip or netbeui on the desktop thats not working? If you are using tcp/ip goto DOS and type ping IP (replace IP with the IP of your other machine) if you do not get a response then your machine may not be actualyl connecting to the network and thats why its not bringing up the logon box.

I was having the same problem after reinstalling Win98 on one of 2 computers networked w/crossover cable.
By deleting the AutoLogin mentioned above, it now boots to the network login screen.

YES! It worked for the 1st time. As above this was a problem after installing Win 98> Thanks for the extremely wonderful help.
