Sharring the connection Via Parellel Port

Hello,
I have a home made server that I use to run my network. I use a thin net system along with UTP. I would like to know if there is any type of adaptor system available to hook up a PC I have that is basically a closed box system. I can't get a network card to work on this Compaq Presario. It has some type of card system its not PCI or ISA. The only expansion is the Modem but this is a short height and short length card. I was thinking that I could use the Parallel port. I use it Via direct connect right now for file sharing but I can't get it to surf the net Via the Parallel connection. Is this even possible?

Hello Larry,
The Presario model number is a 2200. The card must be very short I think thaat it is called a 1/2 height card if one exist The length is short as well. The reason I asked about the Parellel option was just to see if a connection type like this exist, and I have the hardware as well. But if you can steer me to a site where I can find a Compaq card that will work That would be appreciated. I just didn't want to spend the money if it could be done Via parellel port option since I have the Laplink cable.

First, even if you could, you do not want to network via the parallel port. It will be very slow and probably be problematic. Does this http://www.compaq.com/athome/support/msgs/2000/ look like your computer? If so, it may already have a network board and http://www.compaq.com/athome/support/msgs/2000/ipm.html indicates it has some expansion board slots. If it doesn't have the board, I would think something like http://duxcw.com/digest/Reviews/Network/dlink/dfe530txplus.htm would work fine. It does not extend forward past the end of a PCI connector in my computer. http://duxcw.com/digest/Reviews/Network/linksys/lne100tx.htm is another one. Larry
