It appears that I have found the problem. I have Norton Family Internet Security installed on the Win 98 computer and it was prohibiting me from seeing the Win xp shared folder--as well as keeping me from installing a win98 printer onto the winxp machine. When I disabled the entire Norton Internet Security it seems to work fine in both directions. The advanced options in the Norton firewall allow me to set rules on inbound and outbound communications and I think there is some value in keeping the firewall, but I'm having a difficult time understanding the terminology used in the Norton Firewall Rule list to know how to set it up to allow communications with that computer.
I will try to find more info from Norton but if anyone has had experience in setting up rules to work harmoniously with a router and a home network and could point me in the right directionn I would appreciate it.
Thanks very much.
