98 Log on

I had a p to p network working fine, but after a nasty crash, had to install W98 on the host PC again - since then it has refused to ask for the logon at startup, therefore the network is inaccessible.
If I choose Start and Log off, it then asks me to log on, and then works perfectly. Thing is, this is too complicated for my son on the client PC, who needs to be able to log on to the Host easily in order to get ICS working - does anybody have any ideas please?
(preferably before the end of Christmas break!
