P2PNetwork win98se-win 2000pro -problems file sharing and access

My host computer is win 98se and client computer win 2000 pro . I can internet share and see both computers in the network neighboorhood .
If I try to access files in the win2k I get permission denied .
I did already go to the drive and rightclicked to give permissions and did even the same for each individual folders , but still cannot open any documents in the host computer .

Tried and did everything as outlined , but when I try to open a file on the drive I just got permission it tells me I don't have permission to open the file on my win98se host computer .
What else can I do ??/

The share name for the drive as suggested is C . I I try to open a document I get following msg . :
" check the file permissions for the document or drive "

Yes , everyone . Tried it over and over . I have the hand under the drive , which should indicate that it is shared , but nevertheless it is not . Printer sharing works , internet sharing works , just the file sharing eludes .
Any suggestion ?

I just went through all of the posts again… That share name was C or was it C with a dollar sign? I just noticed a space after the C in your post, which may be a dollar sign that may not show-up in this forum because it is a "special character." Also, after reading all of the posts, I am not absolutely sure which computer has the shared drive/which one is trying to access it—the drive is on the Win 2K machine? If you think someone else can help you, I’ll be more than happy to bow out. Larry

No I really hope you can help and really appreciate it , but I am very frustrated and really hope that you with your vast knowledge can help.
The host computer has win98Se . The client has win2000 pro . Internet sharing and printer sharing works perfect .
It's file sharing that has the problem .
The share name on the drive C in the client computer with win2000 pro installed is C without any character behind. The permissions are for everybody . The drive C on the win2000 pro computer has the hand under the drive which should indicate the file sharing .
If I try on the host computer , the one with win 98Se installed to access a word or exell file of " My Documents " on drive C of the client computer with win 2000 pro , I get a msg " permissions not granted " .
The client computer has been partitioned in 3 parts : Drive C , D, E . I have no problems sharing drive d and e , just the C drive .

This has come up in a previous post, i know because it solved the same problem for me, but can't find it. Here's my recollection of what was done.
The win98 machine needs to set up as a user, for the 2K machine, with a password (cannot be blank) i suggest using the user name as the password so it doesn't get forgotten!
On 2k machine, log in as administrator.
Right click my computer
Click Manage
Uncross local users and groups
Open Users Folder
Right Click, in the right hand pane
Select New User
Enter User Name (win98 Network Pc Name)and password
Click Create.
Close windows
Don't think you need to restart - but you might.
Restart Client and you should be presented with a loggin meesage either during start up or when navigating to the 2K shared drive.
When you've done this you'll stay logged in until either machine is restarted.

I was having some of these same problems. I had to set up a guest account on the win2k machine. My win2k machine is the host. Since it was the host, I had disabled the guest account to prevent unauthorized people from using the machine.
Once I activated the guest account, the win98 machine was able to see the shared drives on the win2k machine.
The guest account is set at power user. I will play with different settings to see what I can set it to for security reasons.

Why would you set your guest account to power user?, setting it to Guest would work just fine. However for some reason I don't think that was what fixed your problem, it just happened that way.

I have seen the same problem more than once on 2000 and XP and enabling the guest account fixed it. It may be I was working an XP computer networked to a 2000 computer, I don't recall.

Sorry for the confusion, I was refering to a 2000 machine ... you can't delete the Guest account in 2000 but you can rename it and change its membership. My machines work fine together and I have a 2k and 2 98SE machines, and no guest account. I must be lucky, and remember don't fix what ain't broke.
