Hello, I've connected my home pc with my laptop using ICS. ADSL--pppoe------Desktop----crossover-----Laptop Host and client can see each other and share files, though the client just cannot connect to the internet. Ping any address or ip will have replies like: unknown host name\request time over. The network cards are blinking, and the host dialup to the internet. I have fill in the DNS in the dial up network in Tcp/IP setting. as well as in client network card TCP\IP setting as well. Any ideas? Thanks ! 1. Can you ping 192.168.0.1 from the client? That is the ICS host IP address. Unless you disable the ICS DHCP server you can not assign a static IP to the client. ICS does assign a static IP to the host. Larry 2. RE: Client pc cannot ping internet ip Simon Sze Du Aug-08-00 11:37 PM In response to message 1
ping 192.168.0.1 has no problem. it works fine! 3. RE: Client pc cannot ping internet ip Simon Sze Du Aug-09-00 02:05 AM In response to message 2
I finally get everything going, ICS is working fine! The reason is I picked the wrong network adapter in the internet sharing setting which is inside the IE5. I first picked the network card connected to the ADSL, well I then tried to choose the Dial up adapter, it then works! Perhaps the software I am using to connect to a ADSL uses dial up adapter! Thanks for your ideas and the wonderful homepage. 4. RE: Client pc cannot ping internet ip lbyard Aug-09-00 03:51 PM In response to message 3
Good, happy to hear it works! Microsoft has a Knowledge Base Article on that problem. Larry
