My question concerns DNS lookup.If I type www.whatever.com (just an example name)and hit enter. It looks at my local ISP's DNS servers and does not resolve the host name. Where does it go from there. Does internic have the highest order DNS for all host names? Isn't there a max number of hops before it quits looking?

Delete the "www." It is not part of the domain name. In fact, many web sites do not need the www to connect. You can connect to my web site using http://duxcw.com/ or http://www.duxcw.com/ Larry
