Home Networking with Workgroup and Windows 2000

I have a CableModem(RCA) that connects to my Router(Dlink). I have a direct ethernet connection from the router to my laptop and another line to a hub (Intel). I have a desktop that is connected to that hub. I have a Workgroup ("WORKGROUP") and log into both machines as Administrator without a password.
From Laptop in the Network Neighbourhood - Entire Network -MS Windows Network -WORKGROUP I am able to see both machines but when I click on the desktop folder it says Path not found. This happens even when I disconnect the desktop from the hub and connect it directly to the router.
From Desktop - I am able to see the WORKGROUP but it displays only the desktop and not the laptop.
Misc.
I use DHCP for both machines.
I am able to ping the desktop from the laptop always - but not the otherway round.
Though I can ping the desktop using ip addresses I cannot bring it up from the run command using \\xxx.xx.xx.xx
Any help is appreciated.

I was a bit hasty in that I didnt check the post with a similar problem. I do not have any servers and run Win 2000 Professional on both machines and I do have Zone Alarm on both . I shall try to uninstall it and see if that works.

I bet it will, you can always look in the log of Zonealarm and see if the ip of your other machine is there.
