XP/XP Network
costa May-09-02 05:38 AM
Using a crossover cable I tried to connect my notebook that runs XP PRO (upgraded from HOME) with a desktop PC which starts with Win Me or XP PRO (boot selection).
When the Me runs both PCs ping the IP address of other PC.
With XP startup the ping is unsuccessful althought the IP addresses are same with Me setup, the network connection details are enabled and the status indication is connected.
Thanks in advance.

Just a thought you dont have the firewall option in XP turned on do you if so it might be set to stealth therefore you wont be able to ping ?????

Pls advise. Thanks.

If you have an Internet connection (e.g., a dial-up) and you setup a LAN, it will ask you if you want to share the connection. If you inadvertently said yes and did nothing with the other computer, then you would have the symptoms you describe. So, I would suggest checking on it. Please provide your TCP/IP configuration info. Larry

The problem has been resolved when I used the Realtek RTL8139 card.

Thanks
