problem with a 7004ABR

I am having a problem with a 7004ABR. I have the barricade box connected to my pc (windows xp) and i can ping the box using address 192.168.2.1. I see activity on the baricade box and it completes the ping successfully. I then go to my browser and try to connect to the barricade using http://192.168.2.1 (i have dhcp enabled and i have turned off the xp firewall) but it won't let me connect to the login screen of the barricade. I've tried resetting the barricade but i still have the same problem.Anyone help me???? or have i got a toasted barricade box?

Confirm that the XP firewall is deactivated… Right-click My Network Places icon on the Desktop, Properties, right-click Local Area Connection, Properties, Advanced, uncheck Internet Connection Firewall, OK, Yes when prompted.
Start, Run, enter winipcfg select the network adapter to the Barricade and Release and Renew the IP address from the Barricade DHCP server. You should see it change.
In the Internet Explorer be sure nothing is checked in Tools, Internet Options, Connections tab, LAN settings.
In Netscape Netscape go to Edit, Preferences, Advanced, and check Direct Connection to Internet.
Connect to the Barricade HTML interface with your browser using the following URLs:
SMC7008BR and SMC7004BR routers… http://192.168.123.254/
SMC7004ABR routers… http://192.168.2.1
Or, whatever IP you may have previously assigned to the router. The above IPs are factory defaults.

I think its the other way around. ABR's are .123.254 and
BR's are .2.1. so I think thats what your problem is. you need 192.168.123.254 as the ip address for the config. try that out first.

No sir. I have a SMC7008BR and its default Admin IP is 192.168.123.254. I had a SMC7004BR connected in its place and it used the same IP. I got the IP for the SMC7004ABR from the User Manual. Larry

Larry's correct. The ABR's default admin IP is indeed 192.168.2.1--at least *mine* is. 8-)
