peer to peer, win 2000 ok, win 98 can't see win 2000 machine

I'm running Win 2000 SP1 with a telocity DSL modem and and a linksys NIC. I'm using Sygate on the client and server to share the DSL modem.
My problem is this. Every network feature of the win 2000 machine seems to work fine. File and printer sharing, even the DSL shares great. Incredible download speeds. The win 98 box will connect to the internet over the shared connection, and allow its files to be shared\accessed. I can even do a network game of Command and Conquer (IPX protocol). But, the win98 box cannot browse the network locally. It also cannot logon to the win 2000 box. Also, its network neighborhood is empty.
I've tried deleting and reinstalling all the network components, even removing and reinstalling the NIC in the win98 box. Nothing doing. The problems seemed to start when Aol 5.0 was installed on the win 98 box. I'm open for suggestions, any thoughts?

Whoops! I should also mention that I'm running Sygate 4 beta on the win 2000 machine, and 3.11 on the win98 box. Protocol wise, I've got tcp\ip on both systems, and also ipx. Sygate shows both computers, on both systems. Like I said net browsing is great, so I think tcp\ip is setup reasonably well.

In the Control Panel, Network count the number of adapters. The maximum number of adapters Windows can bind TCP/IP to is four. If that is ok try installing the NetBEUI protocol in addition to TCP/IP. The alternative is to set-up static IPs and host tables. See C:\Windows\hosts.sam. Search for the same file on the Win 2K machine. Larry

Thanks, once I added the NeBEUI protocol everything worked great.
