my computer is Invisible but i can still ping and find on search

help
OK i am running two computers on windows me i have a 10/100 swich and an using the netbeui protocol.
I also have a ISDN and have a default gateway installed on the TCP/IP protocole for that but i have file and printer sharing set up for the netbeui protocole.
when i installed it everything was fine, but now somtime the computers dont show each other in the network nabourhood. it has been happening more and more and now they never show each other.
However if i search for computer by name and put in a star i can find them all. and i can always ping them fine.

?What is going on?????
please help me.

OK i read that atricle.
and neither computer can ever see the other in the network naighborhood. nor can they see them sleves but when i do a search for the computers it finds them and displays all the computers onthe netowrk.

any ideas now?

I must have answered you and then deleted that line out
ok the computers can nerver see each other. not when i turn them on or after 10 minutes or after and hour or affter a day they never apear in the network naighbour hood.

Windows Me does not have a Network Neighborhood per se. It's called My Network Places. Do they appear in Entire Network in My Network Place? If so, that is where they should appear in Windows Me and the problem is not a problem. If not, do you have something shared? OK sorry this may be a repeat post im not sure i clicked submit before my computer locked up.

So if i chagne from using netbeui to TCP/IP will i have a problem with hackers.
I have an ISDN router(D link DL308) It is on all the time so i am worried about hackers.

The router is running dynamicNAPT is this the same as NAT?
is it better or worse and why than NAT?
The router has built in filters is this similar to a firwall?
Do i need a wirefall?
If i should it be hardware or software?
Is hard drive passwords enought protection?
sorry for so many question but Any help or advice would be a great help as im a bit new to this.
