internet sharing with SyGate

I have installed SyGate 3.11. Everything look fine, Both computer can use internet at the same time. However, the connection is so slowwww.. I'm only running 1 computer (server) and it's so slow about 1kbyte/s in 56k modem!! Before install SyGate I was using ICS in Win98SE, it was good. Speed for the server was about 3.5kbyte/s and client was 2.8kbyte/s... what should I do with SyGate. I thought it's suppose to be better than ICS in Win98SE!! please help.. thanks

SyGate is better than ICS. Did you uninstall ICS before you installed SyGate? Larry

yes, i did. I uninstalled ICS before install Sygate, i still got the same result, then I removed all protocols and reinstall them. Then I turned off the client and connect without Sygate or ICS: the speed was 3.5kbyte/s (which is good) then I install SyGate on both server and client. This time the speed is drop down to 0.8kbyte/s ???
So i thought I may have miss some setting in SyGate..help

The one setting in the Control Panel ->Network are: TCP/IP , NetBEUI,file and printer sharing, Dial up network, Linksys network card and client for Ms network.
All the protocols are bound to both Dial up and my NIC.

- Linksys LNE100TX fast ethernet
- IPX/SPX -> Dial up
- IPX/SPX -> Linksys
- NetBEUI -> Dial up

- TCP/IP -> Linksys
- File and printer sharing
TCP/IP -> Dial up with these setting:
- Gateway: nothing
- WINS: disable
- IP address: automatic
- DNS: disable
- NetBIOS: nothing
- Advanced: allow binding to ATM -> value: No
set this protocol to be default checked
- Binding: Client for MS network (checked)
File and Printer sharing (checked)

TCP/IP -> Linksys with these setting
- Gateway: nothing
- WINS: disable
- IP address: 192.168.0.1 and 255.255.255.0
- DNS: disable
- NetBIOS: nothing
- Advanced: allow binding to ATM -> value: No
set this protocol to be default unchecked
- Binding: Client for MS network (checked)
File and Printer sharing (checked)
I also tried to remove IPX/SPX, and Client for Netware but it did not help...

Get rid of the client for Netware. Get rid of IPX/SPX unless you need the protocol for a game, etc. or Novel server. NetBEUI does not have to be bound to the dial-up; delete it there. Let’s make it simpler… Please disconnect two of the clients and send me the parameters for the remaining one. Larry

I removed Netware, IPX/SPX and NetBEUI did not bound to dial-up adapter. I disconnected the client (turn off). Here is the config for the server (only server machince is on).
- Client for Ms Networks
- Dial-up Adapter
- Linksys ethernet adapter
- NetBEUI->Linksys adapter
- TCP/IP->Dial-up adapter
- TCP/IP->Linksys adpapter
- File and printer sharing.
I tried to connect and get the same speed (1.0kbyte/s)

I used Getright to download a file (~5Mbyte) for testing, it gave me the speed of 1.0kbyte/s. I tried Window Commander, log into diffrent ftp(s), gave me the same result. However, I checked the status in SyGate server the speed was about 3->4kbyte/s. ??

I tried to download a file at www.download.com last night. But the speed was the same (1kbyte/s) with ot without Getright. I uninstalled SyGate and downloaded the same file from the same site, the speed was 3kbyte/s. Then I installed Wingate 4.11 the speed was 3kbyte/s... what's should i do??

I don't often give up, but I believe this problem will have to go to Sybergen (http://www.sybergen.com/support/sgreq_form.htm). E-Mail them with the Troubleshooting Log. If you have trouble getting a response let me know and I will prod them. Larry
