Proxy Server

Hi
2 pc's WIN98SE
I am a realtive newbie to networking so can u please give me some advice ...
1) Someone told me I need to buy proxy software to share an internet connection,, is this right.
2) i currently use zonealarm for my standalone.. if i use this pc as the host will my network be secure.
please help me...

For a software solution, buy SyGate (http://duxcw.com/digest/Reviews/Network/sygate/sygate.htm). A hardware solution is better. The SMC Barricade works very well. See http://duxcw.com/digest/Reviews/Network/smc/smc7004br/smc7004br.htm. You shouldn't need Zonealarm with either. Larry

try using winroute its a proxy software real easy to use forgot the site just put a search for it and its free t download.

in win98 se you can use internet sharing. just go into add-remove, and activate it. also be sure to go into the win98 se cd. you would want to go to tools\mtsutil\ics. on your main computer right click and install dnson.inf, anf dhcpon.inf...on your clients, just have them use the main computers home card ip adress as gateway, and use dhcp for wins resolution, auto everything else...Ray
