Trying to Network Celron 550 MHZ Windows 98 SE and Win 95 486 @ 80 MHZ

according to your web instructions, and am getting very frustrated.
The Celron sees only itself.
The Win 95 486 sees the Celron and the files on same it has shared access to, and can operate same. It can not print or access the internet however.
The Win 95 486 won't share files, and the Celron can't see the Win 95 486: share files and printers has been clicked, and is present in the Win 95 486, but there doesn't seem to be a way to enable any files to be shared.
Can you please help? This is getting very frustrating.

Yes. Perhaps there is an irq problem on the win 95 machine... and I'll have to worry about jumpers.
(I doubt that program you advise about will work on the 486, which is an old Dell 25S) But I hope not.
What I have on the Celron is:

Do you or do not have two network adpaters in the Celeron computer? Are you trying to share the Internet via dial-up or broadband/the second network adapter? Larry

A lot of extra stuff i assume, installed when it wouldn't work with less...

Did that. No help. I'm beginning to suspect the version of Win 95 we are running, which is the win 3.1 upgrade, is flawed, and is incapable of providing file sharing - even though the manual and help file claim it can.
I called Microsoft to ask them, but they want $45.00 for any information... so i remain very frustrated. But thanks for your advice to date.

The Win 95 upgrade is capable of doing it. I've done it many times. If you have the old Win 3.1 floppies the Win 95 upgrade can be clean installed on a bare hard disk in much the same manner as the Win 98 upgrade (http://duxcw.com/digest/Howto/software/windows/upgrade/intro.htm). Put the 1st or setup floppy in the floppy drive. When it asks where the old version of Windows is located, point it to the floppy drive. You may have to point it more than once before it takes. Thanks, I'm making a small amount of progress.
Following your advice, we can get the Compaq booting, and running win 3.1, but it won't load win 95 or let us reinstall win 95...
Any suggestions? Thx.
PS. We are still having trouble getting the printers and internet sharing to work. Any chance you could direct us to a threat where this is discussed?
