Networking PII and a 486

I would like to network an IBM PS/1 486 sx33 and a Gateway PII 233. I want to use the PII as a server and I want to share a cable modem. Should I use a router or a hub and can I use the same type of NIC's with each machine?
Any help would be grately appreciated.

Jeff, I would definitely use a router with a cable MODEM. The PS/1 probably does not have a PCI bus like the Gateway. Check your user manuals. So, you may have to use different network adapters. Frankly, I would pitch the 486 box. No one is going to be happy surfing with it. Larry
