"System Policies do not allow adding the selected device?"

"System Policies do not allow adding the selected device". What exactly is that supposed to mean? I do not recall ever administering such settings. What I do recall though is that one day my peer to peer was up and fine and then the next (and from then on) I cannot for the life of me figure out what happened.
BTW: this message occurs when I seek to add "File and Printer Sharing".
Can anyone possibly explain what reasons such a message would occur?

Set your Windows Explorer to view hidden files and all file extensions and see if you have a file named policy.pol in the Windows folder. If so, delete it. Larry

I've hunted high and low as well as running a directory search. And it appears I don't have such a file. I do appreciate your help!

You may have received a security warning when connecting to the Internet as follows:
“File and printer sharing is running on the TCP/IP connection you will use to access the Internet. Other users on the Internet might be able to access your files.
Would you like Windows to disable file and printer sharing on the TCP/IP connection to the Internet?”
If you answered Yes, it might be cause of the problem. Go into the Control Panel, Network, click on the instance of TCP/IP bound to the network adapter, select Properties, Bindings, and check the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks check box. This property for instances of TCP/IP for the network adapter and dial-up, etc. can be controlled separately. Larry
