This sort of problem can happen after upgrading to Windows 98/98SE. Run regedit (Start, Run, enter regedit). The registry should be backed-up before doing anything with it. See Help in the registry for steps. Expand the tree by clicking plus signs to HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Network\Real Mode Net . Delete the AutoLogon value.
