Laptop to PC network

Hi guys,
I got few questions about this networking.
first I have a laptop and connect to school network using PC card ethernet.
Then I get a second one which is PC and recently bouight a ethernet card.
so my question : can I do peer to peer network between the laptop and PC while I can still connect to school network? If yes How can I do that? and since each room in dorm only has one ethernet connection, can I share my school internet connection from my laptop to my PC?
I am new with this network thing.
so If someone can help me, I'll really appreciate it.

There is little doubt that you could network the two computers by putting a second network adapter in the desktop and connecting the computers together with a crossover cable (http://duxcw.com/digest/Howto/network/cable/cable1.htm). The connection to your school system is more than likely with a straight-thru cable. I can’t answer the question about using the school system simultaneously with both computers. It depends on how your school network/PC connection is configured. Many school networks use DOS-based packet drivers and I have not tried to share a connection under those conditions. Suggest contacting the people who manage your school network on this matter, and also to see if they permit sharing a connection. Larry
