What could be the problem

I can ping the computer with its ip address but the machine is not coming in the network neighbourhood
what could be the problem

If you're in Windows, run the winipcfg.exe program, click release and then renew buttons.

The following requirements must be met to browse Network Neighborhood/My Network Places:
1. You must login to Windows or the Microsoft Client for Windows.
2. A unique computer name must be specified in Network configuration
3. The workgroup name must be specified in Network configuration and should be the same as the other workstations.
4. File and Print Sharing must be installed to see yourself in Network Neighborhood
If File and Print Sharing is not listed in Network Configuration on other peers/workstations then you will not be able to view that machine in Network Neighborhood.
5. If the above requirements have been met, disable or enable Browse Masters. A computer that is infrequently used should not be a Browse Master. There must be at least one Browse Master.

Check your protocols on both machines. Make sure they match.

Have you tried installing Net Beui??As i know when i setup my network ,i could'nt see the other computer in Network Neighbourhood until i had installed Net Beui
its worth a go

verify that U install the following
1. tcp /ip with it configration ( ip address + subnet mask )
2. NetBeui protocol
3. client for microsoft network
4. each computer has a unique host name
5 .enter the both client in the same workgroup and verify that U write it correctly
6. file and prite sharing for microsoft
