I built a simple Ethernet network for a client, connecting 2 Win98SE boxen, using NETBEUI as the protocol (no Internet connection). The client also has a Win95A box they'd like to connect. This machine ("Beast") sees the network card but refuses to install the drivers without inserting the original OS CD. Does the client have this? Of course not. I only have a copy of Win95B, which doesn't do the trick. So I fiddled around and did get the drivers installed, etc. However, NETBEUI shows no bindings at all - the box for bindings is empty. My suspicion is there is no way around this except to find a Win95A disk and install the card "legitimately". Does this seem right to you, or has someone got a good "trick the OS" up their sleeve? Also, what do you all do when a client doesn't have a copy of their obsolete OS? Buy one on eBay? Thanks!

Larry - Thanks for the thought. Unfortunately, there is no way this box will run anything more advanced than Win95. And of course, the client hasn't got any driver software, etc. That would make the new install a lot lengthier process and wouldn't be cost-productive for them. Networking this particular box isn't crucial; it just would have been nice for them. Thanks again for your answer.

It could possible be located at C:\windows\options\cabs, but I believe that convention wasn't commonly adopted until win 95 OSR2. Try searching the C: drive. Larry

Good thought, but no cigar. That's the first place I looked. Also checked all over the C drive just in case the Unknown Installer had put the cabs Anywhere Else. Well, the job is closed, so it doesn't matter now. I just thought you might know a Double Secret Probation kind of way to do it that I didn't. Thanks again.

What me, worry?
