Color Switch Cat5

Hello
I'm new to networking, and I've found the dux site to be of great help... however my problem is that looking at the diagrams of the straight through cable and comparing them to the 568A cable I have, I realized that the wires are not in the same order. To convert my straight through wire to crossover what do I do? Will I need to re-tip both ends to match the diagram?

Although your cable is incorrectly wired, it should work, if it was properly crimped, etc. The arrangement of the pairs is what counts as far as whether the cable will work or not, not the colors. You could replace just on end and swap the brown and green pairs. That is, one twisted pair has to connect pins 1 and 2 at one end to 3 and 6 at the other, and another pair has to connect 3 and 6 to 1 and 2 (http://duxcw.com/digest/Howto/network/cable/cable5.htm). However, I would be leery of cable made by someone who does not know how to do it correctly and would replace both plugs so they conform to the color codes. Larry
