SMC & ATM ADSL

Now that my problem with printing has been sorted out, I have been told that in my country the ADSL system is an STM-1 based ATM backbone. Does anyone know if this means that they use only PPPoA which the Barricade does not support, or am I lucky and they can use also PPPoE or Bridged mode!?
I sure hope so because that's why I bought the Barricade.

I don't have an answer. Do you have the cable MODEM and does it have a 10BASET Ethernet connection? If it does, the Barricade should work. Larry

Well Larry I haven't actually got the connection yet or the modem, but I will have a choice of USB, Ethernet, or ATMF interface. They use the Alcatel Speed Touch USB or Speed Touch Home. Will I be asking too much if I ask yuo to have a look at this site http://www.datastream.com.mt/tech_info.htm and see if you can make out something. Also can you tell me waht I have to ask my service provider to make sure I get the right connection?

Lawrence, I looked at it… If you get the “Speed Touch Home modem” with the Ethernet interface, it should work with the Barricade. “The Ethernet interface (10 Mbit/s) allows for easy connection to individual PCs or multiple computers and a local area network, thereby protecting the users network investment and hence lowering the introduction threshold.” The Speed Touch Pro looks to be a router (NAT) and would eliminate the need for the Barricade, but it probably costs more. The fact that it is a NAT further supports the idea that the Barricade will work with the Speed Touch Home modem. If you ask, they may give you the network adapter as well. Larry
