FTP & 2 hour IP lease

I have a SurfBoard cable modem attached to a Barricade router and 2 pcs connected to the 4 port switch.
Problem:
My Cable ISP, NTL, only leases the Dynamic IP for 2 hours at a time, and so it is renewed constantly on the 2nd hour. I get the same IP reassigned each time though I've noticed.
If connected to someone elses server via my FTP client (WS FTP pro) and retrieving a large file (200MB +) my FTP client is disconnected if the lease time expires and renews whilst WS FTP is retrieving the file. I phoned the NTL tech support and they are telling me it is my router that is causing the problem and so won't support me :/
Can anyone tell me whether the constant renewing of the IP lease time would cause this problem with an FTP client, as I cannot believe that it is the router. Personally, I think the bloke was an idiot trying to get out of dealing with the problem but what can I do!
The router is set up for Dynamic IP address,a nd works fine for everything else.

When you connect to http://192.168.123.254/ or whatever Local IP is assigned to your Barricade, the Remaining Lease Time says what? Mine currently says 167:00:30, the 167 being hours. Larry

Every 2 hours it starts off at 01:59.59 again. I found it hard to believe at first, but have had it confirmed that it is a 2 hour lease time. I was also told that it should really be four hours, and they are going to get back to me on that, or so they said... when, I don't know. Could be weeks or never knowing NTL.
A 24 hour lease time would be acceptable, but this is just stupidity. It's not as if they are being inundated with new customers, so such a short lease time would be totally uncessary, well IMO.

A temporary work around would appear to be an FTP program that can resume when the network breaks and can transfer more than one thread at-a-time. I do not know if WS FTP Pro can do that. SmartFTP (http://www.smartftp.com/featurelist.html) can. Larry
