Problems using crossover cable with 2 computer was working fine

Hi all,
This is my first post in this news group so hello. I have a crossover
cable networking my 2 computers. I had it running fine for almost a year
until I reinstalled Windows ME on the secondary computer ( just to clean up
some bugs). Well it whiped out my network configs so I reinstalled them.
In the IP address I put 1 1 1 1 5 (other computer is 1 1 1 1 4)and in the subnet 255 255 255 255 0. I
also reentered the workgroup and computer station name. The workgroup
correlated with the other computer I am networking to. The primary computer
can access the files with no problem from the secondary comp. I cannot get
the secondary to access the primaries stuff. So I started all over and
deleted everything from the secondary;s networking neighbors file, and now
Network neighbor show nothing even after the reconfig. The primary computer
is on win 98 and secondary is running ME. I dont understand what happened
b/c it worked for almost a year.

Use 192.168.0.x for local IP addresses. Those IP's are reserved for private networks. That probably won't fix the problem, however. Try installing the NetBEUI protocol if it isn't installed. Larry

Oh,
When I double click on My network place and double click on entire network I get an error stating that it could be many different things!!

See http://www.ossir.org/ftp/supports/96/netbios-2.html for an answer to your question. Install it by Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network, Add, Protocol, Microsoft, select NetBEUI, OK. After adding it, remove it from any adapters that connect to the Internet. Please send me the network configurations on both computers if you have more problems/questions. Larry
