shared internet speed

I am on a small peer network with 4 users. All of us share the internet via a linksys router. All have network cards. The other 3 users are getting 350K+ speeds on the net. I am lucky to get 70k. I have tried 2 different cards with no change. The ISP tells me it must be a network setting on my computer. I realize this is 'pass the buck' but what network setting could there possible be on my computer.

There are Windows registry settings that can affect the speed. Have you edited the registry? What version of Windows do you have installed? It could also be a bad cable. I would swap cables with one of the other PCs first. Then try another port on the router. Larry

I have not done anything with registry. I have Windows 98 Second edition. I have changed cables and network cards and ports on the router.

Turns out it was my registry. I went to a site that had patches for users with cable models. I applied that patch and now I am getting 370k+. Have no idea what was wrong but it works now. Thanks for your assistance.
