How To Connect Printer In Home Network

Currently I have my printer connected to my home office PC in addition to 2 other computers in the house connected to a D-Link router. The only way the other computers can print is when the office computer is turned on. Is there a way to connect the printer it to the available point on the router? I don't think its a network printer but maybe someone has a resoluion.

You would need a printer server or a router with a built-in printer server. What printer do you have and how is it connected to the computer (USB or parallel)? Larry

Hi Larry:
I currently have the printer going to the traditional parallel port on my home office computer thus, the other computers can only print when it is on. I have a D-Link 700 series router connected to the 3 computers with one port left.

Well I checked on D-LINK and Linksys print servers and they were more expensive then a Barricade router (http://duxcw.com/digest/Reviews/Network/smc/smc7004br/smc7004br.htm) which has a built in printer server. That’s what I would buy. They go for about $100. Larry

I think this solved my problem. I didn't know there was routers with built in printer servers so this endeavor has been a meaningful learning experience.
I thank people like yourself who go out of your way to assist us less technically inclined in resolving of problems.
