HP 895CSE (New) - POWER LT BLINKING CONTINUOUSLY

New printer. Turn on printer before pc and when Win 98 is almost finished loading the green power light starts blinking. Also, prints immediately from WIN 98 HELP topics but anything else i.e. Word 97, Quicken, AOL, you say print, HP Print window appears, say Print now, nothing happens unless I go and press the now lighted Resume button and then it prints great. This should not be a 2-step procedure to print. Planning to call HP tech support when I figure out when the line is not apt to be busy! Any one have a solution for me--thanks.

Before I posted my previous question, I looked first in this area. It does not answer why I have the blinking power light and it is not a paper problem when I must push the Resume button.
In speaking with the HP tech a couple of hours ago and going thru unplugging and plugging in the cable and uninstalling and reinstalling the software, his conclusion was it could be a defective bi-directional cable. Cable is only 18 months old but guess it could be that or else this printer needs to be exchanged. When it prints, it does a great job but I know something is wrong when the light blinks even tho I can work around it. Starting to get those Communication Problem windows again altho it worked pretty good all day. Thanks for your interest.

Where would I check - (68 year old lady) We changed the eee cable (since these have a life time warranty, we doubted this could be the problem) and it did not help. Spent 45 min with HP tech on phone and all he could come up with was maybe it is the cable! Brought home another 895 C and this one also has blinking power light. Getting all those various Printer Error messages.
My pc is HP 6630 (1 year old in March coming up) and wouldn't expect that to be causing this problem. The outlet is tight, husband tightens all the screws on the cable. We wonder why this $400 pc is offered for $159.99. hmmmm. Anything else you can come up with for me to check before this goes back to the store? Thanks Larry or anyone else.

No, no, 31 years old, right? Or at least that is what my wife says, with a smile, when the subject arises.
If you can manage to do it with your computer, I would go into the computer’s CMOS Setup, Integrated Peripherals, or something like that, and be sure the printer port is set for ECP+EPP. Remove and reinstall the ink cartridges. Perhaps you can arrange to take the computer, cable, and printer to the store where you bought the printer and have them troubleshoot the problem. I know I would if I had sold the printer. I think the 895 is a fine printer and would not hesitate to recommend exchanging a defective one for another 895. Larry
