OK here goes! I did a Windows update, afterwards I discovered most of my .inf files were gone. In the Windows Setup Update files I have several new .cab files. First I notice that in my Add/Remove Programs>Windows Setup tab, all of the components are missing, the list is gone (it's totally blank). All the components like system tools, games, cdplayer etc... that were already installed are still usable and on my Start Menu.Next I download something and it tells me that it can't be installed, that I need Apps.inf, so I extracted it from my W98 CD......fixed that problem.
Now I would like to install my new mouse (Logitech Opitcal) that uses the PS/2 port. My present mouse uses the 9-pin serial port because I couldn't get it to work in the 6-pin port and didn't have any software that went with it.
My Logitech does have the software and when I tried to install it, add new hardware went through all the correct steps and when it was time to click the "finish" button it gave me an error code. "Error 69".
What does this code mean?
Are my .inf files my problem? I was told to "be careful" if I tried to extract/install each file, that it could mess things up.
Do I extract from my new "updated" .cab files? If so, where do I find a list of what is in each .cab file?
