fatal exception error when printing

I am getting an error "A fatal exception error has occurred at 0028:00000000" when I try to print from windows applications. I can print text files from the dos prompt without any problems. I am running Windows 98 on a Pentium 2 350 with a HP deskjet 842C. Has anyone had this problem before!! Any help will be appreciated!

How is it connected: parallel of USB? Faulty memory or corrupted drivers, among other things, could cause this problem. I would start by uninstalling the HP printer software and drivers and installing the most recent versions. The printer is connected parallel. I reloaded the driver with the same results! Any other suggestions?

Try tinkering with the printer port settings in the CMOS Setup. Turning-off bidirectional printing may work: set the port to normal or SPP. Larry

Turning off bidirectional printing did the trick! Thanks for the help!!
