I admit this might not be the best forum for this problem, but I did not see a beter one. I have a windows NT server, dual 550MHz processors and 512MB RAM, with an internal HP Travan Colorado 5GB tape drive. There are two SCSI HDDs totaling @12GBs. The HP drive qualifies under published qic-117 standards published by Microsoft and works fine "manually."
The Problem: I have a backup job scheduled to run Friday night. The driver for the tape drive is hpqic157 (latests and grestest which is not new!), although there is an ide driver of qic117 also loaded (for the 3.5" flopply).
Anyway, backup process is triggered but then says, "driver not laoded...backup stopping" and it does. Sure enough, a look at the drivers shows the hpqic157 driver set to automatic for startup, but it is not started.
If I reboot the server and check the drivers it is started. Also, if I use Control Panel ==> tape drive and re-add the driver it will load/start.
There is only one event logged that might be associated, but I can find NO admission to the event in any Microsoft files (I am not perfect, so don't pounce on me if I missed it, please!) The event is Event ID 119 for source qic117, and the description is, "The description for Even ID (119) in Source (Qic117) could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s). ... it shows 28 bytes of insertion. (BUT the 3.5" drive is working fine! So maybe the qic217 event is not part of the problem.)
Has anyone experienced this driver/load problem with a tape drive? Has anyone figured out how to fix it?
