Half faded print out on large photos

In Windows 98, when printing large photos from either PhotoMax or Picture It! , half of the photo will appear faded. I have tried two different printers, an HP Deskjet 812c and an HP Deskjet 832c. I have tried multiple cartridges. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer driver as well as the printer port. Text prints fine and smaller photos print fine. I think it's problem with the printer driver memory... but, I'm a Mac girl and can't seem to find where you change the allocated memory in Windows.
