'Data error' (error #17) :(

What can I do to fix this error?
The following error occured: 'Data error' (error #17)
Setup could not finish copying a file.
Source file: 'C"\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.DAT'
Destination file : 'C:\SYSTEM.NEW=SYSTEM.NEW'
It probably has something to do with my system registry.

What "system" (Windows 95,98,98SE,Me) do you have? And what are you doing, setting-up? And, yes, system.dat is a registry file. Larry

I'm planning to reinstall Windows Me (Upgrade Version). Is there any way I can copy the system registry from another computer? Does the system registry have to be from the same OS?

Yes you can easily copy it, but unless it is the same exact machine with the exact same hardware, and the exact same software it wont work. If you are gonna reinstall and not upgrade , you will wipe out the registry and reinstall it anyways.
