Computer freezes up with a noise

I have got a weird problem with my brand new computer.
It's a
Amd Athlon XP 1700+
256mb sdram
64mb geforce 2 mx400
Soundblaster soundcard
When I play games on the computer it freezes up after 1-30 minutes
with a high pitched sound. I don't know what kind of problem it is but the only thing you can do, is turning it off with the power switch. Is this a problem with the soundcard ?
Hope that anyone can help me and excuse me for the bad language.

First thing to do is take the lid off the case and make sure the CPU fan is OK. Larry

It could be. You might check Creative for more recent drivers. It could be conflicting with another device. Try reseating it; put it in another slot. Larry

I meight have a clue.
Since i had the exact same problem with a computer from a relative i had replaced almost everytihing in it.
Still no luck.
At the very last, i decided (How strange it will look) to replace the videocard, even that the card was showing absolutely no problems in Windows Itself.
It had a VOODOO-3 AGP and i replaced that for a VOODOO-4 AGP
The problem did never reoccour and the system is working fine now.
I sold the other parts and the new customer had absolutely no problems with it. (He used his own Videocard, i kept the offended one)
And guess what??
I placed the offended card in my machine and i got the exact same trouble.
I hope this wil help you out as it did my
( Am i a stupid.... Replaced the videocard in the first place...
Wouldn't coast me so much...
But, got someting back for the other components!)

Oh, I can remember many years ago that I could not get a new Novell file server (the first one I built for a customer) running. It kept having problems with the ESDI hard disk. You guessed it... at three in the morning, I replaced the EGA display adapter and the problems vanished. I remember that one the best, but there have been quite a few other display adapter problems that appear not related at all to the display adapter. Most of them are caused by the display adapter memory. Larry
